Obama Bribes Business - Leaves Millions Unprotected

President Obama's presidency, long characterized by an addiction to expediency over propriety, is at it once again.  The political advantage in Obama's cross-hairs today is the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (The WARN Act). "What's he up to now?" you ask. I'd like say "you're not going to believe what Obama has just done," but we know all to well that he'll do and say just about anything to secure his reelection next month.

Obama's latest gambit is no exception.
Obama Sweeping The WARN Act and Upcoming Pinks Slips to Millions of
Unprotected American Workers Under the Political Rug of 2012 Presidential Elections.
The WARN Act is a federal law requiring that employers give their workers a notice of 60 calendar days before they activate automatic plant closings and mass layoffs. The purpose of the WARN Act is to give workers lead time to adapt to their approaching discharge and look for gainful employment. Providing a time cushion also helps laid-off workers to adjust their finances and possibly seek skills training.

The WARN Act is not only the right thing to do, it’s the law. At least it was, that is until President Obama calculated that abiding by the law could cost him votes. Rather than allowing the act to do what it is designed to do, protecting the American worker, Obama has simply circumvented it. You read that right. He's using his office, Obama's secret weapon of choice, to reconstruct the power of government to distract voters from what's really going at the White House.

Regardless of your political leanings regarding or your personal stance on the WARN Act, let me assure you, it's not the point. It's not your position on the WARN Act that's the issue but Obama's. That is, if it could be shown that Obama was and has always be against the WARN Act, one could rightly proclaim that Obama is merely exercising his authoritative power to justly demolishing a provision he feels is detrimental and unfair to American workers. Right? Well then, let's take a quick look at Obama's past and read what he had to say about the WARN Act:

  • “For too long, employers have failed to notify workers that they’re about to lose their jobs due to mass layoffs or plant closings even though notice is required by the WARN Act. The least employers can do when they’re anticipating layoffs is to let workers know they’re going to be out of a job and a paycheck with enough time to plan for their future.”
Were this not enough to demonstrate Obama's acute hypocrisy, it is telling to note that then presidential candidate Obama advocated that employees under the Forewarn Act must be given not a mere 60 day notice, but an entire quarter - a whopping 90 Day Notice!

What changed Obama from 2007 to 2012? Heartfelt conviction or political convenience? I argue the latter. When Americans voted for change, I don't think this is what they had in mind.

The Obama of 2007 had his constituency's best interests at the fore, while the Obama of 2012 anticipates a political firestorm. The Obama of 2007 would have decried foul had anyone sought to defraud workers of their right to be given ample notice of mass layoffs. The Obama of 2012, however, is now telling employers to seal the mouths and abandon their employees.

There's just no other way to look at it - Obama is breaking the law.

So how is it that Obama can direct employers to to ignore the mandates of the WARN Act and get away with it? Obviously, he's counting on the drive-by media to ignore his duplicitous behavior. He's got good reason believe he can too - when was the last time you've seen mainstream news cover any White House machination of the Obama Presidency? Libya cover-up? Fast and Furious? Nary a word.

I understand that the enactment of the law is extraordinary bad timing for the sitting President. However, it is the law. The sequestration rules under the Budget Control Act of 2011 (which include funding cuts signed by President Obama) have consequences - these consequences will result in job losses exceeding two million workers. What president wants millions of unemployed enraged workers considering who they're going to vote for on election day?

The WARN Act out on hold by President Obama.
It's no small wonder why President Obama has chosen to break the law. As brilliant as Obama is at escaping the fallout from his blunderers (thanks to a complicit media), sweeping millions of laid-off workers under a pre-election rug would require herculean efforts of which even Obama might not be equipped to carry off. True to form, rather than facing the realities of his own advocated legislation, Obama instructs his Office of Management and Budget to ignore the law. The notices that are appointed by law to be sent out are now on hold.

It's not too late to speak out.

Lest you think that President Obama is merely purporting the WARN Act doesn’t exist, I've got something else to tell you. It's not enough for Obama to direct employers to ignore the WARN Act, he's going beyond. He has also promised employers that for their cooperation in withholding due layoff notices to their employees, he will cover any and all legal expenses and employee compensation costs that will naturally result from ignoring the 60-day advance warning.

Obama knows the financial maelstrom that's coming when employees discover they've been hoodwinked by their government. The onslaught of ensuing lawsuits are a forgone conclusion.

Just in case the repercussions of Obama's dirty secret have yet to sink in, when Obama states that he will compensate for something, do you understand from which pocket he'll be doling out billions of dollars?  That's right - the cost of Obama's furtive actions will be borne by American taxpayers - that's you and me.

I don't know what you think about this ilk of behavior, but in my neck of the woods we call it a bribe. At the risk of belaboring the point, on top of Obama telling employers to withhold the required 60  day protection notice for laying off mass numbers of employees, he has also offered them our tax dollars to shut up and go along - until after the election.

My question to you is, "What are you going to do about it?" I suggest telling as many people as you know. You could start by forwarding everyone this blog post.

Thank you for doing your part to protect workers and not allowing a sitting president to use his power to further his self-interests, and at the detriment of so many millions of Americans.
