Easter Belly - Orange County Photographer, Mark Jordan

None of the Belly Art Photos were created in the portrait studio. Instead, my painted bellies were created on location in the living room of one of one of my clients, except Beach Ball Belly, which was taken at local park, in a sandbox. The model must be commended for sitting in the blistering hot, Southern California summer sun with a nine month pregnant belly.
All the images were captured digitally with a Canon 5D. The primary light source was a large, south facing window. White and silver reflectors (48") were employed to soften the shadow edge and bounce light into the shadows.
Each Belly Art photography session took approximately 30 minutes, with the actual belly paintings requiring a few to several hours. The digital post-production artwork required extensive enhancements, taking anywhere from a day to a week.

The entire project took several months to complete, with babies being born in the process.
Even with the images meticulously captured, the work had just begun. It took another year of planning, deliberations and untold hours of fine detail to complete the project.
